ALTERNATIVE LEARNING

ALTERNATIVE LEARNING

We work with small groups of children with BESD who are in mainstream education but need to follow an alternative curriculum.

We design and run bespoke programmes that meet the needs of the children and the national curriculum, including the LNF.

We design all our programmes to:

  • Re-engage the children with learning
  • Give them confidence in their ability
  • Increase their self-esteem
  • Teach them new skills e.g. teamwork, communication
  • Give them the opportunity to achieve a recognised qualification
We work with PRUs and alternative and SEN provisions in mainstream schools, but run the programmes off-site. Although we tailor each course to meet the needs of the children, we often use sport and physical activity as it has such a positive influence on them. For example, the children can train to be sports leaders and gain a BTEC sports leadership award.

When planning an alternative curriculum, we also carefully match the staff team to the learning environment and the children. This is to make sure the staff have the most impact on the children and are best able to help them learn, develop and begin to achieve their potential.
